HISTORY OF HOME BASED MADRASAH (HBM)
HBM was started on 14th of April 2018 after identifying the difficulties Muslim homes were facing in the path of seeking Islamic knowledge. Some of the reasons why HBM was established include:
- Many parents/guardians had difficulties getting teachers for their children or for themselves.
- Some educated and qualified teachers could not get students to teach.
- Many parents/guardians had unreliable teachers who would attend classes as they pleased but the parents had no option but to hold on to them despite their unreliability.
- Unfortunately, some of the parents/guardians have little or no knowledge hence unable to distinguish between qualified and unqualified teachers.
Some parents/guardians had teachers with poor teaching methods hence not benefitting the learners.
WHO WE ARE
Home Based Madrasah is a flexible learning program designed to equip the learners with essential Islamic knowledge. By availing our program to Islamic households, we are able to help overcome common challenges such as location, timings, commuting and access to quality education among others that many people face and struggle with. In our program, the learners receive quality and personalized tutoring in a conducive home environment. The above is made possible through partnerships with qualified Ustadhs and Ustadhas.
H.B.M’s key role is to link families with best suited tutors and monitor the delivery of the promised services. We are also responsible for collection of tutoring fee with the families and subsequently paying of wages and salaries to the tutors. In addition, we act as mediators in the event of a misunderstanding between a family and their tutor.
A common syllabus is used for teaching all our learners regardless of area. It includes Qur’an, Arabic, Fiqh, Hadeeth, Tawheed among other Islamic disciplines. Periodic assessments are done to determine progress of the learners and help in planning necessary adjustments if need be.

Monitored Learning
Classes held online are closely monitored and the parent is also allowed to join the classes upon request. This is to ensure the physical absence of the tutor does not affect the content delivery.
Suitable Curriculum
All our programs follow a curriculum that has been developed by experts and occasionally reviewed to suit the needs of the learners.
Learner Assessment
We conduct periodical learners’ assessment to evaluate their progress and depending on the results, we deter- mine a way forward and any changes to be made if necessary.
Progress Reports
We believe that the parents/guardians and the home environment play a crucial role in the learning progress. Therefore, report forms from the assessment are availed to parents/guardians thereby actively involving them in the learners’ progress.

We value the quality of education for our learners. During the sessions, the number of learners per tutor is limited, such that, each learner gets adequate attention from the tutor.
Spiritual Guidance
Our learning sessions also include reminders and advices to the learners on ways to stand firm in their Islamic values. We also engage our learners to determine how they would respond to difficult situations in matters relating to life and religion.
